15th Feb – Valentine Special- ‘Loving Pairs’

with Matt & Lorna Morton, Toots & Fraser,

Sheena & Davey McCormack and Paula & Stuart Tindall

Put a bit of romance into your lives with our Valentines Special ….. 4 talented musical couples with very diverse styles performing for us on the theme of ‘Love’!

Matt and Lorna Morton appeared recently at the club in their band ‘Red Kite Rising’ when the club was enchanted by Lorna’s fiddle playing. As well as playing with the band, the club has enjoyed being entertained by Matt as a soloist. Matt has previously been a popular contender in the Folk Club Songwriting Competition and he supported Keith Donnelly with the Matt Morton Band in February last year. As a duo, Matt and Lorna tend to mainly do traditional Irish tunes, some of Matt’s songs, and some Irish/Celtic covers. www.myspace.com/redkiterising www.gawkey.co.uk

Toots n’ Fraser aka Suzanne & Fraser Winterbottom, have appeared at the club in various guises including Fat Freddy’s Cat and Rag n’ Roll Band and as a duo they supported Les Barker at the club last June. Fraser is a singer songwriter/guitarist from the Buckingham area and plays blues, jazz, folk, acoustic, ragtime and a smattering of unexpected arrangements of pop songs. Susanne plays accordion and keyboard. www.fraserw.com

Sheena & Davey McCormack can be regularly found at the Bell Folk Club sessions in Adderbury and also in the trio, One Night Stand, with melodeon player, Sandra Shallis. Sheena & Davey describe their music as unruly folk and country blues, drawing from such diverse sources as the Dixie Chicks, ahab, John Tams and Tchaikovsky. They are inspired by all of the greats; Fairport, Bellowhead, Chris While and Julie Mathews as well as by some new bands such as the Decemberists and the Old Crow Medicine Show. Sheena is a recovering Boxhedge Clipper and former member of the Hooky Band. And is well known in Oxfordshire as a ceilidh caller and fiddler, Davey plays bouzouki and is occasionally allowed to sing- but quietly! His background is in blues but he has become a ‘full on folkie’ since meeting Sheena.

Paula & Stuart Tindall have been playing at folk clubs since the early '80s & went on to form their family Band in 2005 when their daughters were just 13 and 10, with gigs at folk clubs and festivals across the Midlands and Home Counties. Regulars at our Club and Festival they have also featured at Upton, Warwick & Bromyard Folk Festivals; a highlight being opening the Main stage concert at Bromyard Festival supporting Seth Lakeman. 2010 saw them achieving their ambition of performing at Fairport’s Cropredy Convention. Now that older daughter, Sarah is at university, Paula & Stuart have a chance to perform as a duo again and we are sure they will not disappoint! www.paula-and-stuart-tindall.co.uk
