Phoenix Dance Band

Straight-up English dance music, with a hard-swinging, exhilarating, traditional style. Phoenix Dance Band is packed with some of most experienced and best of traditional dance musicians from bands including Old Swan, Edward II, Tiger Moth and Grand Union. They are Rod Stradling – melodeons, Fran Wade and Mike Pinder – fiddles, Steve Harrison – harmonicas, and Kevin Brown – piano.

"The best traditional dance music I've heard in years" - Pete Shutler, at Whitby, 2010

You can hear some tracks from the albums After the Fire and All Fired Up on their website.

[Of the album All Fired Up] “They have produced a lovely record of good honest dance music and I for one would be happy to dance to them.” Andy Cutting

The incomparable Barry Goodman is calling a lovely selection of dances. Famous for his relaxed and reassuring manner and a more than slightly magical way of getting us all dancing, Barry will be guiding us through all the evening.

Berkshire’s newest and rather smashing clog dance group Theale Tattoo is entertaining us at half time, with some flashy step dance routines.

Tickets are available on the door: £10 adults, £7 concessions (12-17s, students, pensioners), £1 5-11s and free under 5s. See www.oxfolk.org.uk for details of family and group discounts.

Oxfolk

Oxfolk is a long-running ceilidh series that is currently based in Kennington Village Hall, just outside the Oxford ring road and a few minutes from the A34. Dances run from October to May on the second Saturday of the month, although the April dance is usually run in conjunction with Folk Weekend: Oxford, so doesn't follow the normal pattern.
